Licence Condition
The licensee must provide the NSW Environment Protection Authority by 30 June 2024 a Burwood Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) Sludge Management Plan and Options Report. The plan and report must include, but not be limited to: a) a plan including timelines for the cessation of sewage sludge disposal to the ocean; b) consideration of future demand and adaptability for growth; c) assessment of a range of infrastructure options including technical considerations, risk assessment, and upfront capital and ongoing operating and maintenance costs for the management of sludge from the STP; d) assessment of options must include infrastructure options that deal with emerging contaminants from the sludge; and d) any preliminary consideration of environmental impacts. Note: The EPA's expectation is that the licensee will commit to infrastructure works to cease the discharge of sludge to the ocean as soon as practical.
